Good vision is so important for all areas of a child’s life. About a quarter of young children suffer vision problems serious enough to impede their capacity to learn.

Gabriel’s parents suspected that he had a vision problem. Thanks to the Prevent Blindness America-certified vision screening he received at his preschool, their suspicions were confirmed, and they made an appointment with an eye doctor for a comprehensive eye exam. At age 2, Gabriel was diagnosed with astigmatism and myopia (nearsightedness). The eye doctor prescribed glasses to help correct Gabriel’s vision.

His parents noticed the positive changes soon after Gabriel began wearing his glasses. According to his mother, “Gabriel had improved behavior at daycare. He reached his occupational therapy goals very quickly after beginning to wear glasses. He looks at books independently now without having to lunge forward with his head tilted. He can finally see them!” Gabriel’s motor skills have also improved. He can now toss and catch a ball.
